RULES FOR PAZU-PAZAAK
For 3-6 Players
As Played in the Holocard Cantina App

A round-table variant of Pazaak that allows for multiple players rather than just the two of the traditional game. A variant of this type was played in Garsa Fwip's Sanctuary on Tatooine in the year 7986 CRC (9 ABY). Pazu-Pazaak differs from Standard Pazaak, introducing novel elements that enhance the strategic challenge and interest of the game.
It uses a single Side Deck, and players make bids to secure the cards drawn from this deck at the beginning of the set. Play is continuous, allowing players to join and leave the game at their leisure, or until their chips are exhausted. The stakes are set by the ante at the beginning of each set, which go into the Set Pot, and the proceeds of the bidding phase, which go into the Pazaak Pot, which can only be won by achieving a Full Board.

GOAL

Win the credits in the Set Pot or the Pazaak Pot by completing a set of Pazaak cards, scoring closest to 20 (without going over) compared to all other players. Players who complete a set of 9 cards without going over a score of 20 have a 'Full Board' - having a full board beats a score of 20 without a full board.

THE SETUP

Main Deck: A deck of 40 green cards (values positive 1-10, 4 copies each). Used by all players.

Side Decks: Each player uses a pre-selected deck of 10 cards from a stock of positive, negative and special cards.

Pazaak Boards: Each player uses a board with spaces for 9 cards.

Player Hands: A hand of four cards drawn from the player's Side Deck.

Set Pot: Players will pay antes into the Set pot.

Pazaak Pot: Players will pay bids for Side Deck cards into the Pazaak pot.

THE CARDS
Pazaak Cards fall into the following types:

1 - MAIN DECK CARDS
The Main Deck, from which both players draw during teh match, contains four copies of cards withe the values 1-10. These cards are usually Green, though some decks use the colour Gold.

2 - SIDE DECK CARDS
The Side Deck contains 10 cards, but these 10 cards are selected from a range of available card values and types. The standard card types are Positive 1-10 (Blue Cards), Negative 1-10 (Red Cards), and Special Cards (Red/Blue Switch Cards, Gold Switch, Flip, Double & Tiebreaker Cards).

GAMEPLAY
1 - BIDDING PHASE

Shuffle the Main Deck and the Side Decks. Draw a number of cards from the side deck equal to the number of players at the table. Starting with the first player, each player will make a bid to determine the order in which they can choose one of these cards for their side deck.

The bids go into the Pazaak Pot.

Players then choose from the selected cards and take their chosen card into their Hand.
The player that bids the highest is the new first player.
The first player determines the ante. Each player then pays the ante to the Set Pot.

2 - PLAYER TURN

Play proceeds from the first player clockwise. On their turn, each player must:

DRAW a card from the Main Deck and place it on their Pazaak Board.

Players may then:
PLAY - Play one Side Deck Card from their Hand to their Pazaak board.

STAND - Concludes your play this round and locks the cards and value of your board. You may not draw or play further cards.

END TURN - End your turn.

STANDING & BUSTING

If your Board Total exceeds 20 and you have no Side Cards to play that will bring you below 21, you Bust and are eliminated from the round. You must play a penalty into the Pazaak pot (typically 2x the value of the ante).

Once you choose to stand, you can no longer draw or play cards.
ENDING THE ROUND

The Round ends when all but one player are in Stand or have Busted, or when no player can progress further with their board.

Players wil then compare scores. The highest score, up to the highest possible total of 20, wins the the round.

WINNING & TIEBREAKING
FULL BOARD
If a player reaches full board without Busting, they win the round. A Full Board score beats a Pure Pazaak score of 20.
Tiebreakers
- Any set completed with Tiebreaker card will automatically beat a tied set which does not use a Tiebreaker card. If more than one set includes a Tiebreaker, those players play the standard tiebreakers.
- If multiple players reach Full Board, they compare scores: the higher total (<20) wins.
- If scores are equal, the Player who used fewer cards from their Side Deck wins.
- If scores are still tied, the player who declared 'Stand' first wins.
PURE PAZAAK
A score of 20 normally wins outright, unless another player reaches the 'Full Board' victory condition.

HIGHEST SCORE
If no player has reached 20, the highest scoring Pazaak Board wins.
Tiebreakers

1 - TIEBREAKER CARD
- Any set including a Tiebreaker card will automatically beat a tied set which does not use a Tiebreaker card. If more than one set includes a Tiebreaker, those players play the standard tiebreakers. If another player matches with a Tiebreaker card, apply the tiebreaking rules between those two players.

2 - MOST CARDS
If players are tied for the same score, the player with the most cards on his Board wins.

PLAYER A
PLAYER B
EXAMPLE

Player A = Scores 19 with 6 cards. Player B = Scores 19 with 5 cards. Result: Player A wins.
3 - LEAST SIDE CARDS
If players are tied for the same score and same number of cards on ther board, the player with fewer side cards in play wins.

PLAYER A
PLAYER B
EXAMPLE

Player A = Scores 20 with 3 cards (0 side cards). Player B = Scores 20 with 3 cards (1 Side Card). Result: Player A wins.
4 - STOOD FIRST RULE
If tied for score, number of cards in play, and number of side cards in play, the player stood first wins the tiebreaker.

PLAYER A
PLAYER B
EXAMPLE

Player A = Scores 18 with 5 cards. Player B = Scores 18 with 5 cards. Result: The player who declared 'Stand' earlier wins.
WINNING THE GAME

Play continues as long as players are able to match the ante. A Full Board wins the Pazaak Pot.
