CORELLIAN SPIKE

Corellian Spike was invented for the film Solo: A Star Wars Story (2015) and presented a fresh take on the game that won Han Solo the Millenium Falcon. Opting for a different approach from the game seen in the 'Legends' continuity, the object of the game shifted from achieving a score of 23 to achieving a score of 0 with cards that cancel each other out. The game and its rules were developed not just for the film, but also for part of the visitor experience at Disney's Galaxy's Edge adventure park, where employees in the 'Cast Members' team have been known to teach the game.

RECEPTION OF CORELLIAN SPIKE

Corellian Spike has probably had the bumpiest and most difficult landing in the Star Wars community due to the nature of the rules as originally written and published.  The rules provided for the first official Corellian Spike deck suffer from three things: a certain element of complexity around the ranking of hands, less than clear rule descriptions, and some outright errors. These issues created such a large amount of debate, and generated so many attempts to modify or 'correct' the rules, that there are probably more versions of the rules of Corellian Spike than any other version of Sabacc.

For this reason, the 'Fan Derived Rules for Spike' is separated into it's own page below. If you'd like a version that is easy to play and follow, we recommend the rules on our sister site Games of the Galaxy, which describes the rules as played on the Sabacc Cantina App. If you're playing in a real-life tournament, Sabacc for Charity has good primers on the rules.
